Apple Music launches 100 Best Albums countdown
If there aren’t enough top album lists on the interwebs to satisfy you, Apple Music is throwing its hat in the ring with its 100 best album countdown.
The ten-day countdown kicked off on Tuesday (May 14), with ten albums being revealed daily.
So who’s picking the albums? Along with artists such as Pharrell Williams, Charli XCX, Nia Archives and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, a wide array of songwriters, producers and industry professionals have given their two cents.
Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s Global Creative Director and Lead Anchor for Apple Music 1, has his fingers all over this countdown. While he did admit compiling the list is “practically mission impossible”, he also hopes the list gets people talking about music, which is the ultimate goal of the countdown.
So far the albums in spots 100-60 have been unveiled, with classic albums like Patti Smith’s Horses and AC/DC’s Back in Black sitting alongside Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD and Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Tri.
You can keep up to date with the whole list as it’s released here.
willie nelson releasing cannabis cookbook
In news that’s not unexpected, country legend Willie Nelson has announced the release of his first cannabis cookbook.
Although the ‘On the Road Again’ crooner no longer smokes the green, that doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy the odd weed cookie or cake.

The book includes recipes for Buffalo wings, chocolate cake and everything in between.
For those not used to cooking with cannabis products, the book also includes a chapter detailing a range of cannabis-infused products Willie uses, including cannabutter, finishing oil, simply syrups, sugars, salts, and tinctures.
Gallery Books is publishing Willie & Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook which will be available on November 13.

Kevin Parker signs over MUSIC catalogue to Sony Music
Tame Impala genius Kevin Parker is the latest artist to sell the rights to his music. The 13-time ARIA Award winner has signed over his complete and future catalogue to Sony Music. While the valuation of his catalogue has not been revealed, there’s no doubt he’s received a decent sum from Sony.
"The idea of passing on ownership of my songs is one that I don't think about very lightly, at all,” Parker said in a statement. “They are the fruit of my blood, sweat and creativity over all the years I’ve been a recording artist and songwriter so far. I have a lot of love and trust for the Sony publishing family and have only had great experiences with Damian Trotter and the rest of the gang worldwide. I don’t think my songs could be in any safer hands than Sony’s, and I’m excited for the future and happy I can keep working with them on whatever the future brings…"
As you would expect, Sony is pretty happy about acquiring Parker’s musical endeavours. Damian Trotter, managing director, Australia, Sony Music Publishing, said: “Kevin is a singular talent whose creativity and dedication to his art has enthralled fans and artists since he arrived on the music scene. Having worked with Kevin since before the release of the first Tame Impala album, it has been thrilling to witness his rise to success worldwide, which is so well deserved. We are proud and humbled to be taking custodianship of this iconic catalogue of songs and to be continuing our relationship with Kevin in this exciting phase of his music making career.”

Incubus Release Re-Recorded Version of Morning View
Why mess with a good thing? Cali alt-rockers Incubus has decided to re-record their fourth album.
Released as Morning View XXIII, this new version of the album came about after the band performed the record in its entirety during a successful livestream in 2021.
After playing the album together, frontman Brandon Boyd got the urge to revisit the album, convincing his bandmates to head back into the studio and re-record it. “I actually kind of campaigned… or lobbied the band to do a proper re-record,” Boyd told Consequence in an interview.
Boyd understands not everyone will be keen on this new take on Morning View. “A lot of people love this album the way it is – it’s not like it’s broken,” Boyd went on to say. “But over the years, in subtle ways, [the songs have] sort of morphed and changed, in certain ways they’ve evolved. Sometimes they’ve evolved out into totally different arrangements and then made their way back to the original arrangement – We’ve been playing them that long at this point. On the re-recording, you can tell it’s the same song, but there are different embellishments.”
Morning View XXIII is an interesting experiment that brings a cleaner sound to Incubus. While worth a listen, it’s still hard to go past the original.
