Primal Scream Announce First Album in Eight Years

Songwriter, vocalist and frontman Bobby Gillespie is getting the band back together with the announcement of Primal Scream’s 12th album, Come Ahead.

The band’s first record in eight years contains 11 tracks, including the first single ‘Love Insurrection’, which you can listen to below.

“I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record,” Gillespie says in a press statement. “If there was an overall theme to Come Ahead it might be one of conflict, whether inner or outer. There is also a thread of compassion running through the album.

“The title is a Glaswegian term. If someone threatens to fight you, you say, ‘come ahead!’ It’s redolent of the indomitable spirit of the Glaswegian, and the album itself shares that aggressive attitude and confidence. They have a word for this up there, gallus. Come Ahead’s quite a cheeky title too.”

Come Ahead is set for release on November 8 via BMG. You can pre-order the album here.

Produced by Caleb Tasker (Rum Jungle, The Terrys), ‘Oti’ is a slice of beachside psychedelic reggae that includes a soothing verse from Knows.

“‘Oti’ kind of evolved into an ode to my son, Otis River Young,” Jimmy Young said in a statement about the new song. “It touches on the father-son connection we share and the infinite love I have for him.”

The release of ‘Oti’ comes as Bootleg Rascal gears up for their 13-date regional tour of Australia across September and October.

Promise Village Festival Cancelled Just Days After Tickets Went on Sale

In concerning news for the Aussie music industry, new Perth festival Promise Village has been canned just five days after going on sale.

Boasting a lineup of international artists including Jorja Smith, J Hus and Headie One, the festival was a smaller off-shoot of Queensland’s Promiseland Festival.

Those looking to purchase tickets were greeted with this statement on the festival’s website: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Promise Village on the 12th of October 2024 will no longer be going ahead. Refunds have been automatically processed so no action is required. Please allow up to 5 business days for the funds to reach your account used for purchase.”

The cancellation follows several major festivals that have gone the way of the Dodo this year, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin’ the Moo and Coastal Jam.

PerthNow contacted one of the festival’s co-founders, Emal Naim, who told the paper the cancellation was down to poor ticket sales and lack of government support.

“It unfortunately didn’t hold up to initial expectations and there was not much support to sustain costs, it just wasn’t feasible anymore,‘ Mr Naim said.

32 years in and the festival continues to sell out annually, with last year’s epic lineup featuring a diverse range of acts from around the globe, including the likes of Kraftwerk, Caroline Polachek, Sneaky Sound System, Blawan, Moktar and Miss Kaninna.

Held at Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre in Victoria’s Grampians region, this year’s festival runs from Friday, December 6 to Sunday, December 8. The ballot for tickets is open now until 10:02pm local time on Monday, August 12.
