Tkay Maidza Covers MGMT’s ‘Electric Feel’
The cover arrives on the back of the release of Maidza’s 2023 sophomore album, Sweet Justice.
Zimbabwean-born, Australian-raised, Los Angeles-based rapper, singer and all-around superstar Tkay Maidza has shared a cover of MGMT’s ‘Electric Feel’.
The release is part of Spotify’s Singles series and follows her most recent release ‘Hunned Racks’, a collaboration with THE WHALES and MadeinTYO.
Maidza’s cover is fairly close to the original, albeit with a more contemporary R&B vibe as her soothing vocals float over the funky production.
This isn’t Maidza’s first attempt at covering a famous track, with the ‘Brontosaurus’ hitmaker also tackling Pixies ‘Where Is My Mind?’ in 2021, turning the alt-rock classic into a dazzling synth eruption.
The multi-talented artist’s last full-length project was 2023s Sweet Justice, Maidza’s sophomore album. The record features the likes of Lolo Zouaï, Amber Mark, Duckwrth, Stint and Kaytranada and spawned the singles ‘Silent Assassin’, ‘Ring-a-Ling’, ‘WUACV’, Out of Luck’, ‘Won One’ and ‘Ghost’.
