Triple J is super excited to announce One Night Stand is returning in 2024. The regional festival brings Australia’s best musical talent to far-flung areas across the country so local communities can enjoy what the rest of us city folk take for granted.

The festival was announced by Drive hosts Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor on radio yesterday afternoon. While no date or location has been confirmed, a form has been set up that allows punters to nominate their town and pitch why it deserves to hold the festival.

The last One Night Stand was held in our own backyard in Lucindale in September of 2019. The huge lineup included South Aussie hip-hop legends Hilltop Hoods, powerful singer-songwriter Meg Mac, Northern Beaches rock act Ocean Alley, superstar G Flip and local lads Chelsea Manor.

The return of One Night Stand this year coincides with the festival’s 20th anniversary, with the first event held in Natimuk, Western Victoria in July 2004. The lineup that year featured 90s rockers Grinspoon, WA act Eskimo Joe and one of the last performances by The Dissociatives, the early 00 collaboration between Daniel Johns and Paul Mac.

“The ABC is one of the biggest supporters of Australian music and live performance. At a time when the local music industry needs support, the ABC is thrilled to come to the party with the return of triple j's One Night Stand,” David Anderson, Managing Director of the ABC said in a press release.

Anderson went on to say, “We recognise the festival landscape in Australia has changed since we last put on a One Night Stand. Triple j and the ABC is working with Support Act and Music Australia on how best we can use this event to increase much needed investment in the Australian music industry, while staying true to One Night Stand’s core mission of delivering a one-of-a-kind event, accessible to the public, based in regional Australia.”

Along with Anderson, the head of triple j, Double J and ABC Country, Lachlan Macara, had this to say, “We’re beyond stoked to be bringing back triple j’s One Night Stand in 2024 to continue our support of Australian artists and provide an opportunity for young people in the regions to get around some live music.

“We’re busy working on an incredible lineup sure to create another One Night Stand for the history books and we can’t wait to see where we’ll be heading in 2024.”

As Anderson mentioned, the revival of One Night Stand is a collaborative effort between triple j and Music Australia, with the festival aiming to raise funds to help music charity Support Act.
