After nearly a decade since the release of their third album Dark Horses, The Getaway Plan has announced their much anticipated return. The Melbourne rockers are embarking on a national tour this June with the promise of new music on the horizon.

The band, comprising original members Matthew Wright (vocals, piano and rhythm guitar) and Clint Owen Ellis (lead guitar) and 2014 additions Mike Maio (bass guitar) and Dan Maio (drums), will hit the road this June for a five-date tour, playing small and intimate venues.

Kicking off in Brisbane at Brightside on Saturday June 1, the band then plays Republic Bar in Hobart on Friday June 14, Howler in Melbourne on Saturday June 15, Crowbar in Sydney on Friday June 21 and Lion Arts Factory in Adelaide on Friday June 28.

The tour will see the band play fan favourites such as ‘Where the City Meets the Sea’, ‘Shadows’ and ‘The Reckoning’ alongside new material they are road testing from their new album.

“It’s been almost 10 years since we’ve made music together, and while we’ve all grown a lot in that time, TGP remains deeply ingrained in us, and we all feel very much at home being back here again,” the band revealed in a statement on Instagram.

”Whilst we’re not putting any time constraints on ourselves yet, we’ve decided to head out for a small run of tour dates in June to reconnect with you all, and to share some of our new material in a live format. We’ll also be hitting some cities that we haven’t been to in a while.

”Thank you, everyone, as always, for your endless support and for being on this journey with us for the past 20 years. This truly feels like a new beginning for us, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to.”

The Getaway Plan made a splash in 2008 with the release of their debut album, Other Voices, Other Rooms. The album won two AIR awards – Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Album and Best Independent Single/EP – and propelled them to national stardom.

They followed up with 2011’s Requiem, an album recorded in Canada with Grammy Award-winning producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins). Well received by fans and critics alike, The Getaway Plan found themselves touring the UK and Europe.

After going through several lineup changes and splitting with their label, the band released their third long player in 2015, the self-funded and self-released Dark Horses. The Getaway Plan’s first album recorded in Australia, Dark Horses debuted at #1 on the AIR Charts and #10 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Since then it’s been fairly quiet on The Getaway Plan front, with the odd live show here and there. Their return is sure to please fans and the prospect of new music is an exciting proposition.
