Virtual Studio Team Rolfes & Ninajirachi Take Over The Lab This Weekend
Prepare for a mind blowing visual and audio display like nothing ever seen before.
Prepare to have your sensors sent into overdrive this weekend when The Lab is taken over by acclaimed New York virtual studio Team Rolfes alongside electronic artist Ninajirachi. Together, the two are presenting 321Rule, described as “the first fully original, real-time club-theatre performance combining VR puppetry and motion-capture avatars.”
A pioneering virtual performance studio founded by directors Sam Rolfes and Andy Rolfes, Team Rolfes formed in 2017 and have collaborated with the likes of Lady Gaga, Metallica and Arca. Bringing their latest groundbreaking 321Rule performance to Adelaide for the first time this Saturday, November 30, punters can expect a wild audiovisual thrill ride that’s truly mind-blowing.
Written by spam poet Jacob Bakkila (horse_ebooks, Bear Stearns Bravo), 321Rule follows the journey of Eris Wonderful, “a memory hunter gig worker navigating a twisted, near-future metaverse.”
Part cyberpunk, part video game, each performance of 321Rule features a different musical collaborator, with Team Rolfes teaming with Naarm/Melbourne-based DJ and producer Ninajirachi for their Adelaide concert. The use of different musical artists means no two shows are the same, so attendees never know what to expect from each performance.
The night also includes New York-based artist and live cinema director Kevin Peter presenting an updated version of his audiovisual show, Passage. Joined by Adealdie-based experimental noise duo Messianic Gloss, audiences will be treated to a narrative-driven performance unfolding live in a video game engine that asks the question, “What would nature look and sound like if born from a computer?”
If that’s not mind-altering enough, Capital Waste, Quartz Pistol and Michael Ellingford present //INITIALIZE_BEACON. Combining 3D animation created using Unreal Engine and live vocals and ambient instrumentation, //INITIALIZE_BEACON is a futuristic space tale that plays out in real-time, with the audience following the story of a mysterious distress beacon light years and the journey to discover who or what’s behind the recordings.
Team Rolfes Present 321Rule promises to be an evening of audiovisual delights that will take punters on a sensory journey like they’ve never experienced before.
