Adelaide’s Audio Reign are a determined part of the sound revival in post-grunge-alt-rock of the 1990s, with metal flirtations. Big choruses are their musical motif, and a warning – these striking melodies will catch you off-guard.
‘Crown’ is part Monster Truck, Seether and Sevendust, with a punk drive that forces the sing-along, the drinks to be raised and hips to be shaken. It is flashy – perhaps a little conspicuously so – determined to be a soundtrack presence in film or even sport.
“Take the wheel!” Jake Fleming howls with conviction, harnessing the energy this sound revival requires. The new album The Perfect Sea is due in May and might just be that new wave.
