BROKEN WAVES - EVERYTHING I NEED (SINGLE)

Broken Waves' latest track ‘Everything I Need’ continues to capitalise on the fun, electro-indie sound they’ve built in 2023 – a noise that only gets stronger with each release. This song has a funny way of pulling on your heartstrings and making you want to move. “I never noticed what you meant to me / but in this moment, you’re everything I need,” sings vocalist Ben Lyons-Reid to a pop-spiked beat that makes you want to move. Keen to see this song live? Broken Waves is celebrating ‘Everything I Need’ with a single launch on November 25 at Queen’s Theatre. Buy tickets here.

CHLOE SEA - CALL IT A DAY (SINGLE)

While only 17 years old, Chloe Sea’s sound is way beyond her years. Hailing from the Barossa Valley, the singer-songwriter’s latest track ‘Call It A Day’ is a dreamy folk-pop that hits hard. Lilting vocals that sound not too dissimilar to indie darling Julia Jacklin meet a pop beat that pushes this song into new territories. Sweet yet surprising, this track taps into self-love and resilience in an exciting manner. Hopefully, more to come from the young talent!

THE DAINTY MORSELS - CURSE OF THE DAINTY MORSELS (LP)

SA’s Blues/Rock band The Dainty Morsels have just released their debut album and if you haven’t listened to this psych-infused LP, take this as your sign to do so. The eleven-track record was captured live in the studio over two days at Myponga’s Palomino Sound Recorders and mixed/mastered by Tristan Bird. Featuring fan favourite tracks ‘Don’t Stray’ and ‘Little Miss Green’, The Curse Of The Dainty Morsels is a 48-minute exploration into a sound the four-piece have made completely their own. Celebrate the release of the record with the band tonight at Jive. Tickets are available here.

HOUSE IN THE TALL GRASS - THE SOLDIER WHO FELL FROM GRACE (SINGLE)

The House In The Tall Grass say they write music for people who “feel the world to be stage” and their latest single ‘The Soldier Who Fell From Grace’ is a tight exploration of this muddled mind space they occupy. A heavy-alt rock track is inspired by a novel by Japanese author Yukio Mishima that charts a revenge plot devised by a club of child psychopaths. Chilling. But its dark undertones don’t stop this song from making you want to thrash around at a gig. We can’t wait to hear more!

DAY FOR CAROLINE - ROAMING (SINGLE)

It’s hard to stop your mind from wandering to forgotten places and faces in Day For Caroline’s new track, ‘Roaming’. With soft acoustic sounds and vivid lyricism, the song swells until it breaks into a beautifully layered, folk-infused piece that leaves the soul stirred. ‘Roaming’ is the fourth track from the outfit’s debut EP, You Won’t Feel This Way Tomorrow. If you enjoy this sound, make sure you delve into that six-song treat.

THE DANGER DOLPHINS - ‘NAH’ (SINGLE)

The Danger Dolphins has released the second taste of their forthcoming album Jam Factory, with ‘Nah’ landing last Friday. A real bluesy rock 'n' roll song that leaves you feeling like you're in a dive bar in San Francisco, this two-minute and thirty-second track is enough to get you amped for the duo's sophomore long-play. The premise behind Jam Factory is something that particularly excites The Note office, too -- all the songs on the record unearthed from a jam between the bandmates, with lyrics later layered on top. A cool concept for a cool band. Get around it!

MATT WARD - THE WAY THAT I WAS MEANT TO BE (LIVE EP)

Adelaide alt-country singer/songwriter Matt Ward releases a new EP of songs recorded live at Twin Earth Studios with his band The Rising Sons and guest Taasha Coates (The Audreys). The standalone single 'Red and Blue (The Norwood Song)' is a classic Australian country rock tune inspired for his love for this beloved Norwood Footy Club. Another standout track for all the Americana lovers out there is the sultry duet with Taasha Coates. Packed out with steel guitars, this is a great country album, no not the Keith Urban style, proper Americana country for any lovers of Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, even elements of Wilco, but with a South Australian flair. Matt Ward plays next at OUTLAW'D on Sunday 10 Dec at Murray Delta Juke Joint.

MIM CRELLIN - ALL OUR LITTLE BOXES (ALBUM)

Adelaide's esteemed jazz vocalist, Mim Crellin's debut album, 'All Our Little Boxes,' is a fusion of jazz, folk, and chamber music inspired by her battle with breast cancer in 2022. Crafted during nine months of treatment, the album serves as a personal outlet and envisions a post-cancer reality.
The journey unfolds chronologically, offering a musical exploration of tumultuous moments in Crellin's life. The initial tracks were created during the depths of COVID , with 'Avalanche' specifically addressing this.
'All Our Little Boxes' is about resilience and hope, capturing Crellin's emotional journey with a rich and distinctive sonic landscape reminiscent of artists like Becca Stevens and Petra Haden.
