November 15 - Noteworthy New Releases

Our favourite releases of the week.

Weekend Rage – ‘Stay the Night?’

An energetic ode to the ebb and flow of a new relationship, what sparked my interest listening to Weekend Rage’s thumping newbie ‘Stay the Night?’ was the reference to one of Adelaide’s great establishments, the Crown & Anchor.

“Look at the lights, get another pint, fuck, the Cranka is packed tonight,” is a lyric anyone who’s popped into the Crown & Anchor for a brew or three can relate to.

Namecheck aside, ‘Stay the Night?’ is a vibrant alt-rock tune with a killer riff. Turn it up, crack a beer and enjoy.

Nat Luna – ‘too Pretty’

Likened to Ariana Grande and Charli XCX by Unearthed’s Ruby Howe, Nat Luna continues to impress with each release, quietly emerging as one of the country’s most exciting artists.

‘too pretty’, Luna’s latest single, is bubblegum R&B with feeling. Luna’s bewitching vocals glide over the sparkling trap-esque beat on a song about understanding your true value. “I’m too pretty for this shit,” she repeats on the powerful hook. We agree.

Speaking on the tune, Luna explains ‘too pretty’ is her “confidence anthem about self-empowerment and realising your worth.”

She adds: “It’s sensual, playful, and oozes charisma. I wrote this song after someone let me down, and I realised I was worth more than the bad experience they were offering me. It marks a big turning point in seeing your value - both inside and out - and walking away from anything that makes you feel any less than that. As a wheelchair user, this song is especially meaningful to me because it shows that people with disabilities can be sexy too.”

Atlas Genius – ‘Falling So Hard’

Nine years on from their last album, Atlas Genius return with the much-anticipated End of the Tunnel. Featuring 11 tracks of indietronica, the record is everything you could want from an Atlas Genius release.

One of the highlights is album opener ‘Falling So Hard’. A shimmering synth rocker that would have sent the crowds wild at the UK’s Haçienda back in the day, this track is made for the club. Keith Jeffery is in fine form in the vocal department, while the mini-guitar solo is tasty.

If you like this one, be sure to give End of the Tunnel a whirl here.

Paradise Club – ‘Depths With You’

‘Depths With You’ is taken from Paradise Club’s final release, the five-track EP, Just a Little More.

A melodic dose of indie shoegaze with an emotional punch, ‘Depths With You’ is the type of song made for blasting while cruising with your mates. Crank it up, let your everyday problems evaporate and enjoy this tune in the company of good friends.

You can listen to Just a Little More here.

The Flying Squad – ‘Rinse, Wash, Repeat’

If Paul Kelly’s looking for local support for his upcoming Australian tour he should look no further than The Flying Squad. Led by singer-songwriter Tris Beaumont, the group’s latest release is the rousing alt-country ditty, ‘Rinse, Wash, Repeat’.

But don’t let the uplifting instrumentation fool you, with ‘Rinse, Wash, Repeat’ lyrically sombre, with Beaumont drawing on real life experiences to tell his complicated story.

Produced and engineered by Ryan Martin John at his studio Cactus Cactus Sound in Adelaide’s West, ‘Rinse, Wash, Repeat’ is another fantastic release from The Flying Squad, who have quickly established themselves as ones to watch heading into 2025.

Eugene the City – ‘It's Alright’

Much like the tranquil ocean sounds that play during the first few seconds of this acoustic guitar ballad, there’s a soothing calm that falls over you when listening to ‘It’s Alright’.

The sophomore single from Eugene the City has a modern folk feel. Think José González and Sufjan Stevens.

The gentle guitar plucking is accompanied by cello and piano before Eugene the City’s angelic and reassuring vocals pull you into his intoxicating world, reminding us that everything will be alright in the end. Brilliant stuff.
