Hancock will go down as one of the greatest musicians of all time, having been the driving force behind a string of popular tunes, including ‘Watermelon Man’, ‘Cantaloupe Island’, ‘Chameleon’ and ‘Rockit’.
Starting his career with trumpeter Donald Byrd's group before joining the Miles Davis Quintet, Hancock merged jazz with other genres, incorporating funk and electro into his compositions. This helped make jazz popular with the mainstream and led Hancock to achieve much success throughout his career, releasing 41 albums – eight of which went to #1 on the US Billboard Jazz Charts – the hit 1983 single ‘Rockit’ and collaborating with a who's who of the music industry, including Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Sting, Annie Lennox and more.
As the immortal Miles Davis said in his autobiography, “Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven’t heard anybody yet who has come after him.”
In short, Hancock is the GOAT and one artist you don’t want to miss when he comes to town this October.
