Gather Round is the hottest ticket on the 2024 AFL calendar. After the event was a massive success with footy fans last year, it returns to South Australia with several new additions, including the inaugural AFL Gather Live concert. Taking place after the final game between Collingwood and Hawthorn on Sunday, April 7 outside the famous Adelaide Oval, the concert will be headlined by Jet and Baker Boy.
Jet is one of Australia’s most successful rock acts who blew up in 2003 with the release of their iconic album Get Born. While the band has broken up several times since, they reformed again in 2023, were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and continue to attract large crowds to their live shows. Baker Boy, who was the 2019 Young Australian of the Year, will be supporting Jet, with the proud Yolngu man sure to entertain with his mix of hip-hop and traditional indigenous music.
Lead singer of Jet and die-hard Collingwood supporter Nic Cester is pumped to headline the AFL’s inaugural Gather Live concert. “We've all grown up as footy fans and have always loved playing in Adelaide, so to headline the first Gather Live concert is something we are excited for”, Cester said. “It’ll be great fun to play to the footy crowd... especially after the Pies versus Hawks blockbuster on Sunday afternoon. As a Pies fan, I’m hoping to sing the theme song after the game in celebration!”
Baker Boy, an Essendon fan who performed at the 2021 Toyota AFL Grand Final in Perth, is just as excited to take to the AFL stage and perform for the fans. “I'm pumped to be back performing at the AFL for the first Gather Live concert this April in Tarntanya (Adelaide). I can't wait to hit the stage and maybe even catch a game or two”, Baker Boy said. “I love the idea and energy of everyone coming together for one round, it's going to be huge”.
AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial Kylie Rogers says the AFL is excited to send off this year’s Gather Round in style. "We are always looking for ways to make things bigger and better and are delighted to launch a new initiative with the free Gather Live concert this year”, Ms Rogers said. "Gather Live will give more fans the opportunity to get involved and soak up the electric atmosphere that Gather Round has to offer".
"The AFL is thrilled to have two amazing Aussie acts in Jet and Baker Boy perform at Gather Live and have no doubt they will get the party started and have fans on their feet for the final day of Gather Round in 2024. Whether you have tickets to attend one of our blockbuster matches or are in town to enjoy the amazing food and entertainment offerings, there will be no better place than Gather Live to come together and celebrate what I’m sure will be another successful AFL Gather Round”.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas is also a fan of the free concert: “Gather Live is just another way the AFL is making Gather Round even bigger and better this year", he said. "Jet and Baker Boy on Sunday night will be the perfect way to cap off our Festival of Footy and the best bit is everyone will have the chance to secure a ticket for free”.
The free Gather Live concert is open to football fans and music lovers alike, with Gather Round match-day ticket holders having early access to redeem their free ticket via Ticketek from 12pm (local time) on Friday, March 1, while general public tickets will be available to redeem at 12pm (local time) on Monday, March 4. Gather Live will commence at 7:30pm. For more details visit Ticketek.
