To coincide with the release of her forthcoming 13th album, Backbone, country singer Kasey Chambers is releasing Just Don’t Be a Dickhead, the follow-up to her 2011 memoir A Little Bird Told Me.
Just Don’t Be a Dickhead is set for release via Hardie Grant Books on Tuesday, October 1 (pre-order here) and will be a mix of humourous stories and life lessons Chambers has experienced and learned over the years.
With a foreword by Keith Urban, the book also includes QR codes throughout that link to relevant songs from her Backbone album, allowing fans to create a deeper connection between Chambers’ stories and music.
“I’ve just finished writing a book! I am beyond excited to be releasing it along with a brand-new album,” Chambers said in a statement.
“The book is a collection of stories and experiences from my life that I’ve learnt from over the years. Some from humorous, embarrassing moments, some from deep, heartfelt memories that taught me unlikely things to consistently draw on along the way.
“I am so keen (and a little bit scared) to share these two real and honest representations of my creative soul, along with the inspiration I’ve found in unexpected places throughout my unique life.”
Backbone is inspired by Chambers’ childhood growing up in outback Australia and will drop on Friday, October 4 (pre-order/pre-save here).
The album includes collaborations with The Teskey Brothers’ Sam Teskey and American drummer Brady Blade, along with Chambers’ dad, guitarist Bill Chambers.
“Good and bad, this album is who I am,” Chambers revealed. “I worked with my favourite musicians, and I sang about every beautiful, joyous, embarrassing and tough thing I've gone through. Everything that's gone into making me this person.
“Even before anyone has heard this album or read the book, I feel like I've achieved something special.”
Chambers also released the album’s first single, ‘Backbone (The Desert Child)’, a charming country ditty you can listen to below.
