The Saints Remaining Members Reunite with Rock Legends for Australian Tour
The Saints will play songs from their first three albums, (I’m) Stranded, Eternally Yours and Prehistoric Sounds.
Iconic Aussie rock band The Saints are reforming for a special Australian tour this November.
The run of shows finds original The Saints members Ed Kuepper (guitar) and Ivor Hay (drums) reuniting alongside Mudhoney’s Mark Arm (vocals), Sunnyboys’ Peter Pxley (bass) and former Bad Seeds/The Birthday Party’s Mick Harvey (guitar).
Beginning in Adelaide at Hindley St Music Hall on Wednesday, November 13, ‘The Saints ‘73-’78’ Australian tour then hits Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal on Friday, November 15, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Saturday, November 16, Fremantl'e’s Freo Social on Wednesday, November 20, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Friday, November 22 and Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Saturday, November 23.
The series of six shows coincides with The Saint’s forthcoming release of the deluxe edition of their seminal debut album, (I’m) Stranded. The 4LP box set is set for release on Friday, November 15. You can pre-order the vinyl box set here.
Tickets to all shows go on sale this Friday, June 14 at 11:30am via Feels Presents.
Bursting onto the scene in the mid-70s, The Saints became the first punk band outside of America to release an album when they dropped (I’m) Stranded in 1977. They followed up with Eternally Yours and Prehistoric Sounds in 1978 before tension between songwriter Chris Bailey and Kuepper resulted in the latter leaving the band and forming Laughing Clowns. Hay soon joined him while Bailey continued to record and tour as The Saints with a revolving lineup of musicians.
“It's great to be given the opportunity to run through this set of songs again and especially the chance to work with a group of people of the calibre of Mark, Mick, Pete and especially Ivor, who is one of the most distinctive drummers I've had the pleasure to work with,” Kuepper revealed in a statement about the tour.
“I'm feeling chuffed that they're all on board for this. We'll be concentrating exclusively on material from and around the first three albums, including stuff that hasn't been performed live in Australia before... or, at least, for a pretty long time... very much looking forward to this. Catch us if you can, pop fans.”
Hay added, “I'm really looking forward to having the chance to be playing these great songs again and capturing the original excitement and energy of the first three albums.”
Mark Arm said, “The Saints' first three albums rank among the best records ever made. They have been a part of my life since stumbling upon them in the early 80s. Their influence looms large in Mudhoney world. I am stoked, stunned, and humbled that I get to join in on this Rock ‘n’ Roll Reality Camp with Ed, Ivor, Peter and Mick!”
