The Cult are often referred to as pioneers of the post-punk scene, responsible for not only making the genre popular but influencing many of the bands that came after them.
Forming in 1983 under the name Death Cult, the band became The Cult a year later and became an underground sensation in the UK, with their 1986 single ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ a minor hit. They continued to have success in their homeland before breaking through in the States during the late 80s, with their 1989 single ‘Fire Woman’ peaking at #4 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.
The Cult has gone on to release 11 albums across their 40-year career which also includes several hiatuses and break-ups. The current lineup includes original members Ian Astbury (lead vocals, percussion) and Billy Duffy (guitar) alongside John Tempesta (drums), Charlie Jones (bass, backing vocals) and Mike Mangan (keyboards, backing vocals).
See The Cult perform at Hindley St Music Hall in Adelaide on Thursday, November 28. Full ticketing information is available via TEG[Live].
