The Paper Kites Release ‘At the Roadhouse’ Film
The film features a live performance and narration from the band about the making of their sixth studio album, At The Roadhouse.
Last year The Paper Kites released their critically acclaimed sixth studio album, At the Roadhouse. Close to a year on from the record’s release, The Paper Kites have now dropped a film that shares the album’s name featuring the band performing live with narration about the recording of the record.
Relocating to the regional Victorian town of Campbells Creek to record the album, The Paper Kites turned an old heritage building into an American-style roadhouse and began playing free shows there on Friday and Saturday nights. Word quickly got out and these impromptu jam sessions began attracting capacity crowds.
In a twist of good fortune for fans, local cinematographer Keiren Watson-Bonnice attended many of the performances and filmed the band in action, with lead singer and songwriter Sam Bentleediting editing the footage together into the feature-length film At the Roadhouse.
Premiering at Melbourne’s LIDO Cinemas and Sydney’s Ritz Cinema in September last year, At the Roadhouse was uploaded to The Paper Kites’ YouTube channel earlier this week, but was suddenly taken down today. While you can still watch segments of the film like the one below, the full-length version is no longer available.
The film features the band playing At the Roadhouse in its entirety, with the live footage of The Paper Kites performing intercut with footage of Campbells Creek and the roadhouse with the band talking about recording the album.
At the Roadhouse only reached as high as #68 on the ARIA Album chart but was well received by critics, with CLASH writing in their review of the album: “If you’re looking for a record perfect for autumn, then look no further than At the Roadhouse – a truly stellar legacy left by The Paper Kites.”
Hopefully, the full-length version of At the Roadhouse will be back online or available to purchase for fans soon.
The metalcore act will be supported by Silent Planet and Resolve.
The announcement comes after Childish Gambino canned his North American and European tour due to health issues.
