Having been announced as part of this year’s VIVID and RISING festivals in Sydney and Melbourne respectively, desert blues collective Tinariwen has added several more dates to their Australian tour, including Adelaide. This is the band’s fourth tour of Australia, following visits in 2004, 2009 and 2018.

The Grammy award-winning act will arrive in Australia after playing two shows in New Zealand, beginning with a performance at Sydney’s Opera House on Saturday June 1 as part of VIVID Live Festival. They’ll then head to Adelaide and play the Gov on Sunday June 1 before playing shows in Fremantle at the Freo Social on Tuesday June 4 and Brisbane at The Triffid on Thursday June 6. Tinariwen will then perform as part of RISING Festival in Melbourne at The Forum on Friday June 7, with their final show at the Odeon Theatre in Hobart on Saturday June 8.

Tickets go on sale Thursday April 4 via Oztix.

Forming in 1979 on the Mali-Algeria border, Tinariwen blends traditional African rhythms with modern blues and rocks, creating a unique and captivating sound. Their music often addresses the problems facing the Tuareg people, led by Ibrahim Ag Alhabib’s impactful lyrics.

Tinariwen is touring in support of their ninth album, Amatssou ("Beyond The Fear"), an incredible piece of art that “explores the deep-rooted connections between the desert blues of Tinariwen to the country music of rural America, Southern rock to German psych-rock.”

Tickets for Tinariwen at The Gov go on sale next Thursday April 4 via Oztik at 8:30 am local time. Pre-sale begins tomorrow, Wednesday March 27 at 9:30 am local time. You can register for pre-sale here.
