Perfect Pair: Mr. Riggs’ Mr. Brightside Eurotrash x ‘Girls & Boys’ by Blur

Tumblers and turntables at the ready...

TASTING NOTES

Mr. Riggs’ Mr. Brightside Eurotrash: Life’s all about having fun, right? And when the time is right, you want to make sure your poison of choice can match the mood. Enter Mr. Riggs’ Mr. Brightside Eurotrash – a cherry-tinged red blend that uncorks your silly side if drunk until sunrise. The label says one sip of this moreish, sultry drop and you’ll believe you’re on a beach in Ibiza. Delightfully debaucherous. But don’t let its playfulness fool you. Mr. Riggs makes wine that let McLaren Vale’s big, bold flavours do all the talking. And that’s why this indulgent blend is a constant high scorer with critics Australia-wide.

SLEEVE NOTES

‘Girls & Boys’ by Blur: When Damon Albarn jetted off on holiday to Magaluf, Spain, in the mid-90s, he was shocked at the quasi-science experiment happening inside the town’s tacky nightclubs. There was sex – a lot of it – and no one seemed to care if you saw. Inspired and slightly nauseous, he journeyed back to Blighty and penned Blur’s first top 5 hit: ‘Girls & Boys’. A Eurotrash disco track with a bouncy Duran Duran bass and a splash of the band’s signature Britpop, the song pokes fun at contemporary love (aka copulation). It was Blur’s boldest move. But 30 years later, it’s considered one of their best – an undeniably catchy track that captures holiday hedonism. An instant classic, especially for those in the know.

THEY’RE PERFECTLY PAIRED BECAUSE...

Blur and Mr. Riggs are renowned for pioneering honest expressions of their source material (British society and McLaren Vale soil). But when they decided to take a different route and make something silly and indulgent, both created one of their biggest hits. Of course, you can picture how some Eurotrash might let loose with both (i.e. dribbles of red wine on a shirt, a few buttons popped and a film of sweat across the forehead from dancing). But for those in the know (you and us), we’re aware that we're sipping and singing masterpieces.
