Jess Day is brimming with angst from the get-go in ‘Lilith’.
A chuggy rhythm section and attitude-soaked vocals open the play, with ominous guitars hammering away at each ear. Lines like ‘I hold my demons like they’re my babies’ set an eery mood, which is only heightened by Day’s sonic snarl.
The chorus cracks the song open. Heavy-hitting grunge instrumentation and soaring pop vocals incite head-banging in line with the very best 2000s femme-punk. Much like its religious namesake, ‘Lilith’ holds a defiance that is not to be messed with.
Sounds like: A climactic sword battle.
