Timothée Chalamet Plays Bob Dylan in New Biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’
The movie also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger and Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo.
The official trailer for the new Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown is here. Starring Timothée Chalamet as the legendary singer-songwriter, the movie focuses on Dylan’s controversial move to abandon acoustic instrumentation and embrace the electric guitar during the 60s.
"They just want me to be singing 'Blowin' in the Wind' for the rest of my goddamn life," Chalamet laments at one point during the trailer.
Based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric!, the movie is directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line, Logan) and also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.
Not only does Chalamet take on the role of Dylan, but he also sings the great man’s songs in the flick, with the trailer featuring Chalamet doing a surprisingly decent rendition of ‘Girl From the North Country’. His chops also get a workout singing ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ towards the end of the trailer.
Along with focusing on Dylan’s change in musical direction, A Complete Unknown addresses the love triangle between Dylan, Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro) and Russo, who was Dylan’s girlfriend at the time.

A Complete Unknown isn’t the first stab at telling Dylan’s story, with 2007’s I’m Not There an interesting interpretation of the ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ superstar’s life.
The flick stars six actors taking on different aspects of Dylan’s personality, with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Ben Whishaw and Heath Ledger – in his final role – playing the great troubadour.
An intriguing take on Dylan’s legacy, the film was generally well-received, with even Dylan himself giving I’m Not There his blessing.
