Floodlights Share New Single ‘Buoyant’ and Announce Tour Dates

Naarm/Melbourne-based rockers Floodlights have shared tasty new tune, ‘Buoyant’, the final single taken from their upcoming album, Underneath, due March 21 via [PIAS] Recordings (pre-order/pre-save here).
A moody art-rock wonder with some great trumpet playing, ‘Buoyant’ is a live favourite that ebbs and flows before ending in a wallop of instrumentation. Speaking on the track, the band’s Louis Parsons says: “This song is about aging and how it can be tricky to reconcile with. So often as a young person, you are quick to point out the flaws in the older generation, traits that have been instilled in them but not in you.
“It made me think, what will my generation be stubborn about and will my views become outdated and if they do, will I have the openness to change them and listen to new beliefs. I don’t want to just sink below the noise, I want to have the grace to change”.
The single is accompanied by a music video co-directed by Ava Clifforth and Henry Gosper of good grief. It shows two people who fall into a pool at a party, and as they swim underwater, we see their lives play out as a couple over a lifetime.

Along with sharing the new single, Floodlights have revealed a run of Australian tour dates taking place in May.
Kicking off on Saturday, May 3 at Oxford Arts Factory in Eora/Sydney, Floodlights continue with shows at The Northern Festival in Cavanbah/Byron Bay on Sunday, May 4, Freo Social in Walyalup/Fremantle on Friday, May 9, The River in Wooditup/Margaret River on Saturday, May 10, Lion Arts Factory in Tarntanya/Adelaide on Friday, May 16, and Crowbar in Meanjin/Brisbane on Saturday, May 17.
The final two gigs of the tour take place at Altar in Nipaluna/Hobart on Friday, May 23 and The Forum in Naarm/Melbourne on Saturday, May 24.

The release of Underneath follows Floodlights’ critically acclaimed 2020 debut album From a View, and their 2023 sophomore album, Painting of My Time.
The past five years have seen Floodlights establish themselves as one of the country’s great live acts, having built a solid fanbase performing locally and internationally.
