Half Waif Announces New Album, shares Lead Single ‘Figurine’
See You at the Maypole is the follow-up to 2021’s highly praised Mythopoetics.
Dream pop wonder Half Waif, aka Nandi Rose, is set to release her sixth album, See You at the Maypole, the follow-up to 2021s Mythopoetic.
Release via Anti- on October 4, the album was recorded alongside Half Waif’s longtime collaborator Zubin Hensler and features contributions from a long list of incredible musicians that includes guitarist Josh Marre, violinists Hannah Epperson and Elena Moon Park, percussionists Jason Burger and Zack Levine, clarinetist Kristina Teuschler, harpist Rebecca El-Saleh, trombonist Willem de Koch and upright bassist Spencer Zahn.
Half Waif also shared the album’s deeply personal first single, ‘Figurine’, which explores the aftermath of a miscarriage.
“Not everyone will go through a miscarriage, but this is a song about how to continue on after losing something precious, how to find the light on your face again,” Rose explains. “This wasn’t just my story, I wanted to say. It was every story of loss—the loss of a life, the loss of a dream, the loss of trust and hope and faith. A story of finding a way back again.
“My own avenue back to the land of the living was through my relationships with people and with the natural world. It only seemed right that these songs would invite those people in to build the very heart of the sound.”
You can watch the Derrick Belcham directed music video, featuring choreography by Kora Radella, for ‘Figurine’ below.
A former member of indie rock act Pinegrove, Rose took on the Half Waif moniker after she left the band in 2014. Merging synth-pop with indie-electronica, Half Waif’s beautiful sound and personal lyrics have seen her praised by music critics across the board.
She’s released five critically acclaimed albums, Kotekan (2014), Probable Depths (2016), Lavender (2018), The Caretaker (2020) and Mythopoetics (2021), and has announced US tour dates for 2025 in support of her new release.
