Six years on since his last performance Down Under, riverboat chic rock-n-roller Pokey LaFarge returns this May.
The American singer-songwriter is touring in support of his most recent album, last year’s Rhumba Country. Inspired by his time working 12-hour days on a local farm, the record incorporates a wide range of musical genres, from country and rocksteady to jazz and Afro-Cuban influences.
“The songs that naturally come to me are upbeat and make you wanna dance or at least bop your head—they’re all very colourful,” says LaFarge of the album. “I used to think of my music in dark blue, but now I see it in technicolour.”
LaFarge’s Australian tour commences in Melbourne at The Croxton Bandroom on Thursday, May 8. The country troubadour then performs at Barwon Heads’ Barwon Heads Hotel on Friday, May 9, Meeniyan’s Meeniyan Town Hall on Saturday, May 10, Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on Tuesday, May 13, Bangalow’s A & I Hall on Wednesday, May 14, Sydney’s Liberty Hall on Thursday, May 15 and Adelaide’s The Gov on Friday, May 16, ending the tour in Perth at Freo.Social on Saturday, May 17.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale this Friday, February 7 at 8:30am local time. The password is POKEY. General on-sale begins Monday, February 10 at 8:30am local time. For full ticketing information visit lovepolice.com.

Discovering blues music in his teens, it wasn’t until Pokey LaFarge moved from Illinois to the west coast after graduating from University High School that his music career began to take shape.
LaFarge self-released his 2006 debut album, Marmalade. Busking on the streets of Asheville, North Carolina, LaFarge met Ryan Koenig and Joey Glynn, both members of The Rum Drum Ramblers. The trio recruited Adam Hoskins and formed the band South City Three.
The band played on several of LaFarge’s early records before he began experimenting with different musicians. For close to two decades LaFarge has been recording albums and touring the globe. He’s released more than a dozen studio albums and EPs and has received several awards for his work over the years.
