Emerging South Aussie favs Twine have announced the release of their hotly anticipated debut album, New Old Horse.
Arriving December 6 via Kitty Records (pre-save here), the record has been described as “a tender yet eruptive exploration of wayward relationships and the aches of identity in flux.”
Mixed by Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday), the creation of New Old Horse involved frontman and guitarist Tom Katsaras sharing snippets of ideas with the other bandmembers and turning these sparks into fully-fledged songs
Along with revealing the title and release date of their debut, Twine have dropped the album’s latest single, ‘Sleeping Dogs’. The tune is an indie-folk breakdown that explores feelings of melancholy and dissatisfaction that occur after returning home and discovering all the problems you left behind are still there waiting for you.
“It’s an outpouring of emotion and a positive letting go of anguished feelings,” says Katsaras, whose howl heard during the song was inspired by folk musician Michael Hurley.
The release of ‘Sleeping Dogs’ follows the previously released album opener and lead single ‘Future Exhales’ – a frantic dose of noise rock influenced by American indie act Sparklehourse.
“I wanted to experiment with more riff-based violin arranging as opposed to solely textural parts,” says violinist Thea Martin about ‘Future Exhales’. “I like the effect of the violin moving sonically across the parts of the band.”
