Amyl and the Sniffers return in a big way with the release of two new singles ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ and ‘Facts’. These songs are the first new music we’ve heard from the Aussie pub rockers in three years. Both songs are available via streaming services and are set to be released on limited edition 7” vinyl.
Both songs are what you’d expect from the band, with ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ a commentary on the way women are judged for what they wear and ‘Facts’ a lively number with a hard-hitting guitar riff.
“Lyrically they’re both pretty self-explanatory. ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’ makes me laugh, but it’s also, in a way, poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is (yes I’m talking to you random 40-year-old metalheads sitting around a table doing lines and bitching about a 28-year-old chick in a band for wearing shorts and “selling out'“) but it mainly makes me laugh,” frontwoman Amy Taylor said in a statement.
“It’s unconscious and meant nothing at the time of writing it, but now I think it’s a comedic way of rubbing the dog's nose in its own dog piss after it wee’d on your favourite rug or something.”

The release of the songs comes off the back of Taylor being announced as the keynote speaker at this year’s BIGSOUND 2024. The outspoken vocalist and songwriter will be joined by an illustrious collection of guests during the four-day conference, including A&R legend Korda Marshall, Ben Buchanan from Creative Artists Agency and Elliott Lefko, the Vice President of AEG/Goldenvoice Concerts who is responsible for booking Coachella and Stagecoach.
On the band front, Amyl and the Sniffers are gearing up to play festivals in North America and Europe over the winter, with the release of ‘U Should Not Be Doing That and ‘Facts’ hopefully signalling a new album might be in the works.
You can stream both songs on all good streaming platforms and pre-order a copy of the 7” vinyl here.
