10 YEARS OF ANCIENT WORLD KICKS OFF TONIGHT
The alternate Adelaide venue celebrates a decade in business with a massive three day festival this weekend.
Ancient World is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a three day blowout this weekend. In a time when many small venues are struggling with rising rent and the cost of living, there is no better time to show your support than getting along to one (although we recommend all three) nights of what is shaping up as an epic weekend event.
Opened by Brad Cameron and David Apps as a space for Adelaide's art community to gather where experimental musicians and artists could perform, Ancient World has developed a loyal fan base over the past decade. Current owners Chelsea Zerna and Hugh Scobie want to honour the venue's rich history and have curated a line-up sure to appeal to regulars. The genre spanning selection of creatives playing over the weekend all hold a special place in the hearts of the Ancient World crew and the event will no doubt make for an unforgettable three nights of music. In a recent chat with CityMag about the bill, Zerna explained she and Scobie wanted to make sure “we covered the many different communities who come here”."So we weren’t only going to play techno, we weren’t only going to book bands: we really wanted to touch on all the different genres of the communities to make sure that there’s representation there from lots of different people", she went on to say.Described as "3 days and 3 nights of music, dance and food and fun", the line-up is a mix of DJs and bands, with the likes of The Bait Fridge, Plastiq + Capital Waste, Babyteeth, Wet Weather Policy and Small City DJs on the bill. There's also a special international guest in the form of NYC DJ UMFANG. Co-founder of Discwoman, UMFANG was born in the Bronx, grew up in Kansas and calls Brooklyn home. According to Ancient World's Facebook page, "Their music is rooted in catharsis, release and improvisation rather than any identifiable high-art aim." UMFANG will perform a thrilling three hour set on Sunday night which is one not to be missed. Check out the full line-up of artists and the nights they are playing below. Entry is just $25 entry, first in best dressed. There will be no passouts.
