Birds of Tokyo Announce 2024 Acoustic/Electric Australian Tour
The Perth rockers have also released new single, ‘Heartbreakers Bar’.
Birds of Tokyo are changing things up with their upcoming The Heartbreakers Bar Tour, with the Perth rockers performing both acoustic and electric sets.
The five-date tour will see Birds of Tokyo open with an acoustic set before plugging in their instruments and rocking out with a heavy electric set, performing all their classic hits including ‘Lanterns’, ‘Good Lord’, ‘Plans’ and ‘Unbreakable’.
The concept of the tour was inspired by the band’s new single, ‘Heartbreakers Bar’, which you can listen to below. The tune is a vibrant acoustic number with a singalong chorus accompanied by a giggle-worthy music video directed by Matt Sav.
Birds of Tokyo’s The Heartbreakers Bar Tour kicks off in Brisbane at The Fortitude Music Hall on Saturday, October 26 and continues in Sydney at the Enmore Theatre on Thursday, October 31. The band then make their way to Melbourne for a gig at the Forum on Friday, November 1 and follow this with a performance in Adelaide at Hindley Street Music Hall on Saturday, November 2. The final date of the tour takes place in the Birds’ home city of Perth at the Astor Theatre on Tuesday, February 25.
Support comes from critically acclaimed indie singer-songwriter Sahara Beck, who will perform alongside the band on all five dates.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale from 10am local time Monday, August 19 until 5pm local time Tuesday, August 20. General sale commences at 9:30am local time on Wednesday, August 21. For full ticketing details visit Birds of Toyko’s website.
In news that’s sure to surprise fans, The Heartbreakers Bar Tour is Birds of Tokyo’s first headline tour since before the pandemic. While the band have continued to play live and support artists like Incubus and Keith Urban, this is their first official headline tour in years.
Speaking about their return to the live stage, frontman Ian Kenny said: “It’s been over five years since we’ve played in our old stomping grounds like The Enmore and The Forum so we’re really looking forward to finally getting back into those rooms that everyone loves.”
He added: “It’s been amazing to appear on all these big outdoor shows and to collaborate with those great orchestras over recent years but these two-act gigs will allow us to dig a bit deeper into our catalog and play some songs we haven’t done in ages”, explained guitarist Adam Spark. “We always like to shake things up a bit so doing an acoustic set as well as a normal one should keep us on our toes. Hopefully it’ll be a bit of extra fun for the audiences too.”
Along with The Heartbreakers Bar Tour, Birds of Tokyo have several festival dates lined up, including an appearance at Victoria’s Always Live Festival and a spot on the bill at Earp Presents Portside Festival in Newcastle in December.
