BARKAA Announces 2024 Australian Tour
The tour comes after BARKAA won Artist of the Year at this year’s NIMAs.
Fresh from winning Artist of the Year and Film Clip of the Year for ‘We Up’ at this year’s NIMAs, rapper and artist BARKAA has announced a seven-date Australian tour.
The shows come in support of BARKAA’s upcoming EP, BIG TIDDA, which arrives Friday, August 30 (pre-order here) via Big Apples Music. Along with six headline dates, the Malyangapa, Barkindji woman from western NSW is performing at the Darwin Festival on Friday, August 23, which kicks off the tour.
BARKAA then heads to Perth and performs at The Rechabite on Saturday, September 21, with the tour continuing in Hobart at Altar on Sunday, September 28, Lions Art Factory in Adelaide on Friday, October 4 – Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide, The Brightside in Brisbane on Friday, October 11 and The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Friday, October 18, with the final date taking place in Sydney at Oxford Arts Factory on Saturday, November 2.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now via this link.
In a statement about the release of her upcoming EP, BIG TIDDA, BARKAA said: “BIG TIDDA is a celebration of blak joy, the importance of blak love and just feeling yourself. I showcased my culture with Blak Matriarchy, but with BIG TIDDA, I am taking you for a walk through the streets where I grew up – the Housing Commission estates of Southwest Sydney. The message behind the record is to have fun.”
She added: “We’re not just blakfellas who make blak music. We’re blakfellas. We make great music and we are taking over. It’s take-over season. I create music for everybody, but mostly with my sister girls in mind. I want people to connect to my music and be like: ‘that’s my track. That’s my story. I can relate to that. I feel that. I’m going to big-note myself today. I’m going to be confident today. I’m going to make amends to my family today. I’m going to take accountability today.’ That’s what BIG TIDDA is about.”
Since dropping her debut single, 2020s ‘For My Tittas’, BARKAA has quickly established herself as one of Australia’s most exciting artists. Her recent wins at the NIMAs, combined with the release of acclaimed singles ‘We Up’ and ‘Preach’, have only solidified BARKAA’s position in the Aussie hip hop scene.
Catch BARKAA at Lions Art Factory on Friday, October 4. Tickets on sale now via Moshtix. Pre-order BIG TIDDA here.
