Composer and pianist Max Richter has announced a new album, In a Landscape, due out September 6, along with his first-ever world tour that includes a visit Down Under.

The classical prodigy is playing shows across Europe before touching down in Australia in February 2025. He has five shows lined up in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Richter will be accompanied by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Tickets are available via Richter’s website, with the pre-sale beginning Tuesday, June 4 at 9:30am and general sale following a few days later on Thursday, June 6 at 9:30am.

Richter’s world tour coincides with the release of his ninth album, In a Landscape, which was recorded at the studio he shares with his wife, visual artist Yulia Mahr, in Oxfordshire. The German-British composer has also revealed the first song from the record, ‘Movement, Before All Flowers’, which you can listen to above.

In a press release discussing the album Richter said: “It is a record about reconciling polarities, bringing together the electronic and the acoustic, the human and the natural world, the big questions of life and the quiet pleasures of living – a fleeting self-portrait of a musician in constant motion.

“For me, the music on the record is about connecting or reconciling polarities. The electronics with the acoustic instruments, the natural world with the human world, and the big ideas of life with the personal and intimate.”

Richter also explained how In a Landscape is tied to his exceptional 2004 record, The Blue Notebooks, which is a protest album about the war in Iraq.

You can pre-order In a Landscape here. For full tour details visit maxrichtermusic.com.
