Sarah Blasko Announces Seventh Album, Releases Lead Single ‘The Way’
The album is the Sydney singer-songwriter’s first since 2018s, Depth of Field.
Three-time ARIA Award winner Sarah Blasko is preparing for the release of her seventh studio album, I Just Need To Conquer This Mountain, set for release on Friday, November 1.
The LP comes six years after her last release, 2018s Depth of Field, which The Guardian awarded five stars and called an “intimate exploration of desire haunted by a sense of deep disquiet.”
Recorded at Rancom Street Studios in Sydney with engineer Brent Clark, I Just Need To Conquer This Mountain was produced by Blasko and mixed by Kenny Gilmore (Weyes Blood, Julia Holter, Ariel Pink).
Along with announcing her new record, Blasko has shared the lead single, ‘The Way’. Anyone familiar with Blasko will know what to expect from ‘The Way’ – it’s a beautifully haunting folk tune that fits Blasko’s enigmatic vocals and introspective lyrics.
The song, co-written with musician Bec Sandridge, is about Blasko’s decision to walk away from the church at age 17 after being brought up in a strict Christian household.
“She kept singing, ‘Get me to church,’ and I loved it,” Blasko shared in a statement about the song. “I eventually pulled the song out and finished it off.”
You can listen to ‘The Way’ below.

Blasko is one of the country’s great voices, breaking through in 2004 with her debut album, The Overture & the Underscore. She followed this with two platinum ARIA charting top ten albums, 2006s What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have – which won Blasko her first ARIA Award for Best Pop Release – and 2009s As Day Follows Night – an album that resulted in Blasko being awarded the ARIA for Best Female Artist.
I Awake followed in 2012 before 2015s Eternal Return saw Blasko claim her third ARIA Award for Best Adult Alternative Album. Her last record, Depth of Feild, came out in 2018 and managed to reach #5 on the ARIA Charts, her highest charting album alongside As Day Follows Night.
While Blasko has been rather quiet over the past six years, she got back out on the road this year supporting Boy & Bear on their ‘Harlequin Dream 10 Year Celebration Tour’.
