Aussie favourites The Wombats have today shared their boppy new single, ‘Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want To Come’.

The release of the tune comes ahead of The Wombats’ headline performance at this year’s Rolling Sets, the band’s only Australian show for 2024.

Speaking on the tune, frontman Matthew Murphy says, “[It] is about constantly defaulting to a 'Lone Wolf' mindset, and what the real life consequences of that may be.”

With lyrics like “Sorry I’m late, I didn’t want to come, It's not that I hate you, I just hate everyone,” Murphy captures the feelings of many young people in the modern world. You can watch the music video for ‘Sorry I’m Late, I Dind’t Want To Come’ below.

Breaking through in 2007 with their debut album A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, containing the hit singles ‘Moving to New York’, ‘Kill the Director’ and ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’, The Wombats became one of the world’s biggest indie acts.

The trio of guitarist and vocalist Murph, bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen and drummer Dan Haggis kept the momentum going with their 2011 sophomore release, This Modern Glitch. They followed up with 2015’s Glitterbug and 2018’s Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life and became frequent visitors to our shores, performing at every festival you can think of.

2022 saw The Wombats release their fifth long player Fix Yourself, Not the World, which ended up being the band’s first UK Album Chart #1. Headlining shows at Crystal Palace and The O2 in London, The Wombats continue to draw massive crowds to their shows and maintain their hold on the indie pop world.

Catch The Wombats at Rolling Sets on Saturday, December 7. Tickets are on sale via the Rolling Sets website.
