Several weeks ago, Metallica teased their long-awaited Australian return. Now, Rolling Stone Australia has confirmed they will perform at least one show in Perth on Saturday, November 1.

Sources have revealed to the publication the thrash metal giants will take over the 65,000-seat capacity Optus Stadium before continuing their hotly anticipated M72 tour along Australia’s east coast.

This is big news for Perth metal maniacs and another win for Perth music lovers after Coldplay performed two exclusive sets in the city back in 2023, raking in a reported $8 million.

The rest of the M72 tour dates are expected to drop in the coming weeks, with rumours persisting the band will play at Adelaide Oval along with gigs in Melbourne and Sydney.

The news of Metallica’s Australian first tour broke a few weeks back after the band took to their website to announce a lengthy run of shows across North America, releasing the statement: “Finally, North America is not our only stop in 2025, as this year, we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away!!! Stay tuned for the full announcement coming VERY soon.”

Live Nation followed this by taking to social media and posting an image of the band with the caption: “Sign up to be the first to know.” Next to the comment are several emojis and a link taking you to a page where you can join the Metallica waiting list email.

Metallica’s North American dates run from April to June 2025 and include solo shows and Metallica’s famous ‘No Repeat Weekend’ concerts. These awesome events feature Metallica performing two nights in a row at the same venue with different setlists and opening acts each night.

It’s unsure if Metallica will be performing their ‘No Repeat Weekend’ concerts in Australia, although it’s believed they will be bringing their ‘Snake Pit’ – a monster circular stage that’s placed in the centre of each venue to allow fans 360-degree views of the band – stage setup Down Under.

When dates are announced, it will be the first time James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo have performed in Australia since 2013 when they were part of that year’s Soundwave Festival lineup.
