Sad news for the Aussie music scene today with Splendour in the Grass organisers confirming the festival won’t be coming back in 2025.

In a statement posted to social media, organisers said the event needs to “recharge” so it “can come back bigger and better” in the near future.

“Hey gang, sorry it’s been so quiet, but we had a little holiday…finally. The rest of the festival team have still been busy cooking up some awesome new things for music lovers in Australia, but Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and we won’t be back this year,” the statement reads.

”Think of it as a breather so we can come back even bigger and better when the time is right. Lots of other huge events on the horizon so keep an ear to the ground in the coming months – we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on!”

If there’s anything positive to take from the statement it’s that the Splendour crew are “cooking up some awesome new things for music lovers in Australia,” hinting at a new festival or smaller specialised events.

Last year’s Splendour in the Grass was canned several months before its planned date of Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 1 at North Byron Parklands. At that time the festival released a statement saying “unexpected events” led to the festival being cancelled.

“With a heavy heart, we’re announcing the cancellation of Splendour in the Grass 2024, originally scheduled from Friday 19 July to Sunday 21 July in Ngarindjin/North Byron Parklands,” the statement read.

“We know there were many fans excited for this year’s line-up and all the great artists planning to join us, but due to unexpected events, we’ll be taking the year off.”

The statement went on to say, “Ticket holders will be refunded automatically by Moshtix. We thank you for your understanding and will be working hard to be back in future years.”

The shock announcement arrived just two weeks after the lineup dropped, with pop princess Kylie Minogue, Atlanta rapper Future and indie stalwarts Arcade Fire headlining. The lineup also included a slew of Aussie talent, including G Flip, Tash Sultana, Pond, Tones And I, Polaris, Thelma Plum and more.
