MAY: FIVE MORE VENUES TO KNOW
More booze and bites recs to add to your bucket list…
LATTERIA
From the brains behind Osteria Oggi comes Latteria, a cosy cocktail bar tucked away on Hutt Street. Aperitivo hour in Milan was a main influence for this art-deco, wooden-clad bar, creating a space for restaurant-goers to duck in for a drink before a long dinner at one of the precinct’s iconic restaurants. Of course, the food served inside this cool haunt is also outstanding – moreish bar snacks paired perfectly with bitter Aperol are the stars of a menu that stretches up to main courses. Did we mention they have an excellent rotation of DJs every weekend?
YES PLEASE: Crunchy cannalo with whipped ricotta, prosciutto and spiced honey.

NIÑA
New restaurant Niña is what happens when an acclaimed cheesecake baker, FOH star and viral food blogger join forces and take on Adelaide’s dining scene. Nestled underneath Sofitel Hotel, this moody venue takes cues from the tapas bars famed in Barcelona and Madrid. Nights here start with a sangria carafe to share, followed by punchy plates of pintxos (think grilled octopus) and larger, flavour-packed courses (the lamb backstrap with Olasagasti anchovy salsa is a win!). Dessert is also a must. Co-owner Leo Loureiro (Basque by Leo) is a master at making velvety smooth and caramelised Basque cheesecakes, and slices of this are served generously. Arrive hungry – you’ve been warned.
YES PLEASE: Spiced tuna, citrus fraiche and pickled cucumber.

A PLACE COFFEE
The community of cafes, coffee shops and cool eateries in Bowden have gained another cute venue! A Place Coffee is a pint-sized café dedicated to brewing bean juice. It’ll be slinging espressos, pourovers and speedy batch brew coffees Monday to Saturday AM inside a light and bright timber-clad home. And while it’s primarily focused on servicing those craving caffeine, A Place Coffee also sells a selection of freshly baked pastries and other bread-based goods from local suppliers.
YES PLEASE: A pandan lamington with a house espresso.
WHERE: 37 Second Street, Bowden

MAKAN
Small batch natural wines, a flavourdriven menu designed to share and a cosy fit-out are the ingredients behind new Flinders Street destination, Makan. The name of the Southeast Asian-inspired wine bar means ‘to eat’ in Indonesian and Malaysian, signalling guests to arrive hungry. Once seated, there are courses of crispy baby squid with shichimi and lemon, Szechuan grilled eggplant with fermented chilli mayo and mustard stem and braised pork belly baos to satisfy your rumbling belly. Wash these down with the rare wine labels owners Ben Liew and Karl Tang have sourced from around the world.
YES PLEASE: Salmon betel leaves with green mango, peanuts and salmon roe.

RASCALS DELI AND WINE
We’ll never tire of sinking our teeth into thick slices of bread stuffed with meats, cheese and salad. So, when we heard that Rascals Deli and Wine was opening, you bet our ears pricked. This sando slingin’, wine sippin’ venue serves gooey roasted portobello mushroom and whipped brie toasties drizzled in truffle oil, fresh mortadella and burrata subs with chilli honey and cups of coffee capped at $5. The wine bar aspect is still in the works but hopes to become a quirky late-night destination for those craving a glass of boozy grape juice.
YES PLEASE: A classic Rascals chicken salad sando with greens, dill and crispy bacon.
