Plant-based power has never tasted better!

Staazi & Co

Image @staazi_and_co

This city haunt has the tick of approval from blink-182 drummer Travis Barker (plus thousands of SA vegetarians and vegans). What started as a popular food truck has since expanded into a bustling brick-and-mortar, with Staazi & Co revolutionising Greek street food. Think plant-based ABs, yiros and loaded fries. Authentic and delicious, there’s a reason why this Grenfell Street hotspot was voted the world's fifth best vegan food van by Lonely Planet!

Our pick: the PB lamb yiros with homemade tzatziki wrapped in toasted pita.

Where: 224 Grenfell Street, Adelaide

Hispanic Mechanic

While this Glen Osmond Road institution isn’t strictly vegan, Hispanic Mechanic has curated a mouth-watering plant-based menu – aptly coined the Dancing Daikon. Expect authentic Central American flavours in the Latin-inspired plates designed to share, with a hint of Korean influence in courses such as the KFC cauliflower taco. Even better, Hispanic Mechanic’s menu is 90 per cent gluten-free!

Our pick: the enchiladas stuffed with lots of veg, vegan cheese and guajillo sauce.

Where: 205 Glen Osmond Rd, Frewville

Lucky Ducks

If you haven’t made the trip to Lucky Ducks in Aldinga, take this as your sign to do so – this community-loved vegan hotspot is closing its doors this May 11. Plant-based food is at its best here. Think Harissa dumplings with strained yoghurt and pine nuts, salt and pepper eggplant with bang bang sauce, crispy zucchini flowers and tom yum cauliflower with green mango. Delish! All of this is served in a rustic restaurant with an unbeatable atmosphere.

Our pick: tofu and peanut curry with cassava crackers, lime leaf and cos lettuce.

Where: 206 Port Road, Aldinga

Brunch here is fuss-free and honest, with the low-processing kitchen turning over uncomplicated courses such as cacao choc smoothie bowls, tofu scramble and beetroot hummus toast. The afternoon invites stacked burgers, salads, loaded wedges and hot pot bowls. Yum. Make sure you suss out their exclusive Friday night dinners, too!

Our pick: pumpkin and rice balls salad with quinoa, pickles and hummus.
