February 2025: Five To Try

The venue openings you might’ve missed over the summer holidays.

Bullet Club

Live music, a Japanese take on diner grub and a Nintendo 64 with all your favourite games – what more could you want from Moseley Street’s latest hotspot? Bullet Club is the late-night drinking den serving top-shelf whiskey, crispy chilli udon and a dose of nostalgia. Gritty and grungy, expect a dimly-lit bar with spacious booth seating, decorated with the ‘90s memorabilia you wish you had (think Spice Girls posters and a Street Fighter Champion arcade game). The venue has also teamed up with Inside Out Audio to install a Funktion-One sound system to support its forthcoming roster of local gigs – stay tuned for who is playing when.

Yes Please: Miso short rib sando with provolone cheese, shredded cabbage and crispy shallots.

Where: 4 Moseley Street, Glenelg

Gang Gang

Gang Gang relocated its iconic burger-flipping brick-and-mortar store to the foothills, opening in late November. This Eden Hills spot is ideal for grab-n-go grub after a ramble in Blackwood Forest Recreation Park, the venue itself stripped back to a few milk crates-turned-coffee-tables in the light-filled interior. But this lets Gang Gang get on with doing what its best at: serving stacked burgers, breakfast bagels and big cups of locally roasted coffee. Wrap your hands around one of the homemade concoctions, sink your teeth in and enjoy!

Yes Please: The Cali Love Cheeseburger with a double smash patty, house pickles and animal sauce.

Where: Shop 2/276 Shepherds Hill Road, Eden Hills

Fleurieu Gin

Award-winning distillery Fleurieu Gin has opened its long-awaited cellar door and restaurant, reinventing a patch of family land with a purpose-made building overlooking the rolling Myponga hillside and sea. Come for the boutique gin (we can’t look past the Pepper Berry Blue gin), stay for plates of pizza and local produce served inside the light and airy venue. The distillery is more than just booze and bites, too – enjoy lawn games and a spot of putt-putt in the sun-soaked alfresco area.

Yes Please: Burrata bruschetta.

Monica

Adding to the vibe of the East End’s already buzzy collection of bars and boutique restaurants, Monica is a new eatery in the precinct that channels Hong Kong’s old-school nightlife in a menu designed to share. The sibling restaurant to Southeast Asian venue Makan, this moody 40-seater serves a range of wood-fired small plates and elevated mains that borrow flavours from countries such as Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan. Plus there are experimental cocktails (think a ginger Coca-Cola Old Fashioned or a grilled pineapple tequila mix with spicy gochujang sauce). Settle in for a late-night feed of 14-day dry-aged duck breast and Korean rice cake skewers as the vinyl record system soundtracks your evening.

Yes Please: Wagyu beef tartare with nashi pear, kimchi mayo and pringles.

Tiger Skewers

Simple yet smart, stuff on a stick is the premise of this new venue. Tiger Skewers joined the vibrant collection of eateries on Gouger Street in December to serve the favourite street-food snack to hungry late-night crowds. The entire process is completely customisable to you, just select your stick (think crispy chicken, rice cakes, veggies and other meat assortments) and your spice level (there are four to choose from) before sending it away to be fired. Name better post-mosh nosh to chow down!

Yes Please: Crispy chicken skewers with sriracha seasoning.

Where: 118 Gouger Street, Adelaide
