August 09 - Noteworthy New Releases

Our favourite releases of the week.

Tushar – ‘Feels Like A Start’

Having recently scored a coveted spot on this year’s SXSW Sydney bill, rising talent TUSHAR is soon to become your new favourite artist with the release of his latest single, ‘Feels Like A Start’.

At just two minutes and twenty seconds, the track is a technicolour burst of giddy indie-pop-meets-surf-rock goodness that’ll have you bopping your head to the jangly guitars from the get-go.

It’s the kind of song that stirs your endorphins, with vibrant rhythms and TUSHAR’s joyous vocals making ‘Feels Like A Start’ a wonderful exercise in euphoria. A dancefloor filler, for sure.

Superdose Gangway – ‘Not Fair’

Emo punk quintet Superdose Gangway (what a name by the way) keep kicking goals, with their latest track, ‘It’s Not Fair’, another six-pointer.

Taking inspiration from America’s Midwest emo scene, ‘It’s Not Fair’ features cranking guitars, driving percussion and relatable lyrics about failing to live up to someone’s expectations no matter the situation.

Zoe Smith’s backing vocals offer a nice juxtaposition to Max Tulysewski’s raw delivery, with the song’s pulsating melody made for rocking out to.

Jess Day – ‘Softness’

Anyone familiar with The Note understands we are huge fans of Jess Day. We don’t like to play favourites, but it’s hard not to get excited when Day has new music dropping.

‘Softness’, the creative’s latest, is the third taste of Day’s hotly anticipated debut album, A Small Garden of Disappointments, releasing October 11.

The track merges indie-pop melodies with a punk rock attitude that finds Day exploring the hardship and struggle that come with trying to escape from the cycle of a painful and harmful relationship.

Honest, fearless and relatable, Day continues to knock it out of the park with ‘Softness’.

You can pre-save A Small Garden of Disappointments here.

PurÉe – ‘Figure It Out’

I feel like I’ve been transported back to the mid-00s when listening to Purée’s ‘Figure It Out’. And I say that as someone who really digs the music from that era.

A taut indie groover with a stylish bass lick, ‘Figure It’ Out’ conjures memories of dancing like a sweaty idiot in London indie clubs. Probably not relatable for anyone reading this, but I’m sure you can agree this tune is a vibrant indie rocker that makes you want to move.

Simply put, ‘Figure It Out’ is a really fun tune made for weekends with good friends.

Jamie Lena – ‘Collateral Damage’

‘Collateral Damage’ is a smooth, soulful nighttime cocktail from singer-songwriter Jamie Lena.

Continuing to showcase her incredible musical dexterity, Lena’s warm vocals float over light jazz percussion on ‘Collateral Damage’.

The introduction of a bluesy guitar riff towards the song’s backend takes things up a notch before Lena delivers the song’s impactful final lines: “pull it out of my chest / from the corner where the arrows enter every time.”
