Hot Chip Team with Sleaford Mods for Two New Songs
The tracks were recorded for War Child, a specialist charity for children affected by conflict.
Ahead of their Australian DJ set tour, Hot Chip have collaborated with fellow Brits Sleaford Mods on two new tracks for charity organisation War Child.
Recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, the two tracks – ‘Nom Nom Nom’ and ‘Cat Burglar’ – are being released as a 7” via Friendly Records (pre-order here). The collab came about as part of Abbey Road’s Lock-In series, where two different artists come together in the iconic studio to create magic.
Both tracks are what you would expect from a team-up between Hot Chip and Sleaford Mods, with the Mods vocalist Jason Williamson's constant stream of consciousness unloading over Hot Chip’s indie dance beats.
Speaking on the collaboration, Hot Chip said: “Making these songs over the course of one day at Abbey Road was a great experience. We arrived without a plan but quickly began working together in a harmonious way, with lots of improvisation and very little ego. We are very grateful to Sleaford Mods for joining us and very proud of the result.”
Sleaford Mods’ Williams added: “On the day we went in cold and just handed ourselves over to it. ‘Nom Nom Nom’ is a lyrical continuation from our album UK Grim over Andrew’s keyboard riff, built on by Hot Chip and finishing up with an excellent chorus from Alexis.” He also explained ‘Cat Burglar’ “as a weird prog rock meets B52s jam that explores the narrow corridors of modern human experience.”

The cover art for the single comes from acclaimed British artist David Shrigley. Commenting on the artwork, Williamson said it “is the cherry on the cake, as it perfectly represents the music and lyrics.”
Williamson also mentioned the great work War Child are doing: “All creativity aside, most importantly we’ve donated the tunes to War Child. They’re doing important work in a time where the world is in chaos and although we can’t fix the chaos, we can do a bit to help.”
Sleaford Mods are currently on tour in the UK and gearing up for a return to the studio to record their 13th album.
Hot Chip have spent much of 2024 touring and head to Australia at the end of December for a nine-date DJ tour which includes two shows in South Australia.
