FIVE (MORE) VENUES YOU NEED TO KNOW

Five food and drink venues that leave us hungry for more…

PATCH KITCHEN

Stirling’s Patch Kitchen wants you to leave their light-filled venue with a full belly and soul. Acclaimed chef Andrew Davies (Osteria Oggi, ex-Press* Food & Wine) teamed up with his wife, Belle Kha, plus partners-in-crime Peter Harvey and Mette Cordes-Harvey to create a considered place where community comes first. Swing past for a cup of coffee and slice of raspberry flan, a glass of local wine in the garden, or an indulgent lunch with loved ones. And, of course, the food is outstanding.

YES PLEASE: Port Broughton blue swimmer crab tagliatelle with chilli, garlic and passata.

WHERE: 143 Mount Barker Road, Stirling

ALT. WINE BAR

The Hyde Park neighbourhood is at its best inside Alt. Wine Bar, the new booze and small plates venue opened by the team behind Burnside’s Lockwood General. Taking shape on King William Road, the bar has a 200-long list of wines divided by textures, and tasty individually-portioned snacks for you to savour solo (or to share, if you’re feeling kind). Experience all of this around a communal table cut from a century-old red gum or outdoors in the sun.

YES PLEASE: Fried chicken with honey, truffle sriracha, cucumber and a sprinkling of sesame.

WHERE: 151 King William Road, Hyde Park

LOC BOTTLE BAR

Loc Bottle Bar isn’t new, but it’s a firm favourite in The Note office, particularly for Friday knockoffs. The Hindmarsh Square wine nook started running a food service in early August, slinging bread and butter, anchovies and pickles, plus larger plates, to its after-work and weekend crowds. The nibbles complement the bar’s ever-changing wine list, featuring natural and organic pours from South Australia and across the world. Keep across their socials for special one-off collaborations (think long lunches) with winemakers and chefs.

YES PLEASE: Mullet ceviche.

WHERE: 6 Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide

MOMODA BY KRISH

The last place you’d expect an intimate, Asian- fusion dining experience is at a pub. But that’s exactly where you’ll find new, 48-person-seated restaurant MOMODA by Krish. Tucked away at The Maid, MOMDA serves plates of Korean beef tartare with green apple and fried mushroom crackers, crispy squid with yuzu kosho mayo and watermelon, and open-fire roasted eggplant with smoked ichimi pepper jam and puffed rice. Yum! There are also 10 flavours of house infused soju, to complement the flavours featured on the menu.

YES PLEASE: Kataifi Spencer Gulf prawns with Aleppo pepper and honey dressing, roasted almonds and kaffir lime leaf.

WHERE: 1 Magill Road, Stepney

SUSA KITCHEN

Expect coffee, brunch and libations from new Adelaide Hills eatery, SUSA Kitchen. From the sister duo behind Mount Barker’s Lady Luck café, SUSA serves Banh Mi breakfast waffles, Turkish eggs with homemade focaccia and a rich mushroom ragu on toast with goat curd, fried enoki and ‘perfect poachies’. What’s more, the venue is absolutely stunning: the curved edge breakfast booths are ideal for a sunny meal, while outside has views over the sprawling Ashton Hill Estate. Pop past on Sunday for live music and picnics on the grass.

YES PLEASE: Salt and Szechuan pepper eggplant with chilli jam, gochujang aioli and a herby, pickled red onion salad.

WHERE: 1 Aston Parade, Mount Barker
